Review of Old Mutual Medical Aid

Old Mutual Medical Aid and Medical Cover are both integral parts of Old Mutual Insurance. The medical aid consists mainly of two types of cover which are their Medical Gap Cover and Hospital Cash Plan.

Medical Gap Aid & Cover

Gap Cover provided by Old Mutual will cover the medical professional accounts for the policy holder , and their family, for up to four times NHRPL in the event of any of the following:

- In-hospital medical and surgical treatment resulting from an accident or ill-health.
- Out-patient treatment by chemotherapy, radiotherapy or renal dialysis.
Cover is provided for each calendar year up to R100,000 per event and up to a maximum of R500 000 per family. Costs for Old Mutual Medical Gap Aid and Cover is approximately R120 per month and this covers both the holder of the policy and their family.

Hospital Cash Plan

The Old Mutual Hospital Cash Plan is designed to pay the policy holder a daily benefit in cash for each day spent in hospital (150% is paid if it’s as a result of an accident), and this money can be used towards the expenses that can be incurred during the stay in hospital. The policy can also cover the immediate family.
After the policy has been running for five years, customers will be paid back 15% of the total contributions made over the period, no matter whether a claim has been made or not. This bonus is repeated every five years while the policy is still valid.
This Hospital Cash Plan can be tailored to suit the client and policy holders can choose from a daily benefit of R200, R400, R600, R800 or R1 000.

This medical aid can be extended to include the policy holder's family (the spouse and five nominated children) and will also pay out 150% of the selected benefit if the policy holder is in hospital due to an accident.
